Top 5 Video Games Would Benefit Greatly from Remakes

These days there have been a lot of remakes and remasters and a lot of them I feel are unnecessary because the originals are still very playable and fun. But, rather than debating old vs new, I'd like to talk about some games that I feel have not aged the best but have potential to still be great with modern quality of life updates. Click "read more" and let the countdown begin.

5.  Metroid 2

Metroid 2 was a pretty advanced game for its time, especially given that it was an original game boy game. Naturally, the game takes place in-between the original Metroid, (which already got remade on the GBA as Metroid Zero Mission), and Super Metroid which is a classic. Now, these games are not too reliant on the story, but it would still be pretty cool to be able to experience this title with the updates of later Metroid games.
I already know that this title would do great as a remake because fans have already done it. Nintendo has never been too friendly to fan-made products with their IP so, I think they owe us a remake of their own since they don't want fans to do it.

4. Metal Gear 1 & 2

Even some of the biggest Metal Gear Solid fans never played through the original 2 games. Most, especially fans outside Japan, probably never even played the original 2 games before they were bundled with Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence. Since the series has always been story heavy, it would be a nice treat for the fans to play through these 2 stories. Especially since it is unlikely we will ever get a Metal Gear Solid 6. Who knows, maybe if Metal Gear Solid Δ does well enough then we might get the idea pitched.

3. Final Fantasy 9

Of all the classic Final Fantasy game, number 9 is easily the most underrated. It has some of the most likeable characters and the only 3D game to have the 4 party member system like the classic games. Upon its release, some criticized it for the chibi graphics style, but the mindset behind that has changed.
I believe the only reason this title hasn't been talked about as much or remembered like 7, 8, and 10 is because of when it came out. By the time of its release, the PS2 was already out and Final Fantasy 10 was only a year away so 9 got left has last gens product.
I believe a remake of this game would sell well and be great for the fans of classics. Personally I would love even just a remastered version with voice acting.

2. Panzer Dragoon Saga

If there was ever a classic/under rated game that was difficult to play outside emulation, it is Panzer Dragoon Saga. Many praise this as one of the best RPGs they've played and it has never been re-release or ported. Sega reportably lost the source code and even Game tap opted not to include it despite having non-exclusive rights. This was due to how difficult it is to emulate Saturn games and there not being enough demand.
With all that, many RPG fans have missed out on this experience. Even the director, Yukio Futatsugi, has openly talked about what he would add and do different in a remake. So. I plea to all RPG and Sega fans, give this title a look, and maybe someday there can be enough buzz to ask for a remake.

1. Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain

The first title in one of my all time favorite video game series'. This game was ground breaking for its high quality voice acting and amazing story, both of which still hold up today. It is a story I wish more people could experience. Sadly, and maybe I am in the minority on this, while the presentation is great, the gameplay has aged poorly. Now, let me stress this, the game is still very much playable and fun, but I truly believe that it's full potential is not yet reached.

The gameplay is Isometric and the world does have secrets and good atmosphere. Unfortunately, movement isn't very smooth as you you can only move in 8 directions. The camera is not great either, you can either have it zoomed in or out at only 2 set points, also the camera quickly moves towards whichever way Kain faces that isn't easy on the eyes.
Combat is acceptable for the most part. Most of the frustrations with gameplay are mended with new weapons and abilities. Kain moves slowly, but early on you unlock a wolf form that is faster and can jump obstacles. It is easy to accidentally kill an enemy before getting a chance to feed, so after the first boss you get a new mace weapon that is less powerful but only stuns enemies so you can feed easier. Stuff like that. Problems are combat is repetitive and floaty and it is difficult to figure out where to go next. Especially since there does not seem to be anyway to replay any past dialogue so if you load a file after not playing for awhile then I hope you remember what your next objective is.
This game is one I want to be remade the most because getting to experience this amazing tale with modern gameplay would be fantastic. Even just adding a mini-map, subtitles, and a way to quickly switch between spells & items would go a long way.

Those were my top 5 picks for games I believe would benefit from being remade. Granted that this list was based entirely on my gaming preferences, I know your list would be different. Leave a comment about what you'd like to be remade and why, I'd love to read it. Till next time, this is Cendoo the Ghost Ranger, signing off.
