A new Spongebob Squarepants movie, "The Search For Squarepants" is coming out to theaters in December 2025. It will be the fourth theatrical film in the series. Featuring the original cast from the show returning plus an all star cast of new characters, notably Mark Hamill, who will voice The Flying Dutchman, taking over the role from Brian Dole Murray, in the next theatrical adventure.
Just recently the full guest voice cast was revealed, which features talents such as Regina Hall, Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro, George Lopez and rapper Ice Spice. Spice will also perform a new exclusive song for the film. Their roles are currently unknown.
In a new interview with Collider, they asked "Search For Squarepants" and Spongebob veteran director Derek Drymon what his future plans would be after this movie. He responded,
"I'd love to do another SpongeBob. It was super fun to go back to those characters, and it was really fun working with the original cast. I've known all those guys for so long, and just spending so much time with them in the recording studio was super fun. Working with the crew, I was able to find some of the older guys from way back when. I hired some new people. So, I feel like we've got a nice group together, and really hit our stride, you know?"
He also discussed what it was like working with Mark Hamill, who will be taking over the role for the iconic Flying Dutchman character. His plan is to make him sound scarier than usual, so it would be very interesting to see what they come up with to tweak his character.
Besides a couple of interviews and cast reveals, not much is known about the new Spongebob theatrical adventure. It's rumored that it will be spooky themed, and said that it will take place in the mysterious Deep Ocean, as Spongebob and Patrick go on an epic quest to save Gary from being stolen by The Flying Dutchman.
So far, no trailer or official synopsis has been shared. But we are looking forward to seeing this new Spongebob movie (and hopefully one day soon there would be another!)
"The Search For Squarepants" is the fourth theatrical film in the franchise, following 2020's "Sponge On The Run", 2015's "Sponge Out Of Water" and 2004's "Spongebob Squarepants Movie".
