It's been more than a year since we last heard anything of the supposed reboot of the Ren & Stimpy Show. We here at Emerald Rangers had been frequently covering up to date news of the potential on again and off again release. I was just remembering it the other day and thought , "Well that happened." Unfortunately, it looks like the Ren & Stimpy reboot is no longer. But to many fans, this could be a good thing for them. Even though John K, the original show creator was not involved with the reboot, if all went to plan, would have released sometime in 2024. Unfortunately, many long time fans did not enjoy the modern tone of the new rebooted season. Billy West came back to voice both Ren & Stimpy but it looks like that wasn't enough to save the show. It didn't. Only about 2 episodes were aired in France and small South American countries very briefly- before suddenly disappearing.
Well, not exactly disappearing entirely. Within weeks of the show's supposed cancellation the entire season got leaked online. (They are much harder to find now though) which is how some of us managed to watch it. The word is that Paramount decided to shelve the new show after the negative feedback and wrote it off for tax purposes. It is a shame, that despite the creative differences of many, a lot of work went into the show and animation, voice actors, etc. We would have gotten a brand new ordeal of 26 new episodes officially. It seems that Paramount were not impressed by the show leaking and, the rumor is that's why the Ren & Stimpy reboot was never released. Also, in 2024 Paramount+ decided to cancel a couple of upcoming shows , such as the Daria & Jodie film, Rugrats 2021 Season 3, and of course, (though unannounced) the Ren & Stimpy Reboot as well. They purged a couple of other Nickelodeon shows off Paramount+ that year, such as Big Nate, Blues Clues & You, and Middlemost Post, (How dare they ! I was watching that!) to focus on more content that would gain "widespread appeal" with its global audience. Bah.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Do you think this is the right thing for the Ren & Stimpy reboot, does it deserve to be forgotten or do you think they should have given the new show a chance?
