Trombone Champ Is The Greatest Game Of 2022

If you've been keeping track of this blog lately you'll notice I have been disappointed with most games that have been released this year currently. It wasn't until my sister messaged me one day and said 'Have you heard of this game called Trombone Champ, it's on PC, I can't play it because I have a Mac." so I looked up the game and it looked funny. Thankfully I have a PC so I bought it. Before I had little to no faith in humanity left as 2022 is nothing but a desolated hellscape. But Trombone Champ came along and made me actually feel a little better inside. Sure it doesn't help but make me realize I am a terrible Trombonist. Is that a real word? (I've just looked this up and it is) ... already this game is not only providing entertainment value but also educational value too.

So what's the huge deal about Trombone Champ? Well it's a game similar to Guitar Hero except you play the Trombone. In order to make sounds, you have to lift the mouse up and down and click on the buttons when they come past. Sometimes they show up on the screen very fast and it's almost impossible to keep up, especially if you're a very bad Trombone player like myself. Hilarity ensures as the sound of a poorly played Trombone blairs through the song you are trying to play.

There are overall 20 songs to start off with which isn't a bad start. We have famous classics such as O Canada, Take Me Out To The Ball Game, The Old Grey Mare, and more. Here's a current list of all songs from the game so far, thanks to Newsweek:

  • "Also Sprach Zarathustra" – Richard Strauss
  • "Auld Lang Syne (CHAMP MIX)" – Robert Burns
  • "Baboons!" – Holy Wow (Original Song)
  • "Beethoven's Fifth Symphony" – Ludwig van Beethoven
  • "The Blue Danube Waltz" – Johann Strauss II
  • "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" – Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
  • "Eine Kleine (CHAMP MIX)" – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • "Eine Kleine Nachtmuzik (Trap Mix)" – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • "The Entertainer" – Scott Joplin
  • "Entry of the Gladiators" – Julius Fucik
  • "God Save the King" – Unknown
  • "Hava Nagila" – Abraham Zevi Idelsohn
  • "Long-Tail Limbo" – Max Tundra
  • "O Canada" – Calixa LavallĂ©e
  • "Rosamunde (Beer Barrel Polka)" – Jaromir Vejvoda
  • "Skip to my Lou" – Unknown
  • "The Star-Spangled Banner" – Smith & Key
  • "Stars and Stripes Forever" – John Philip Sousa
  • "SkaBIRD" – Holy Wow (Original Song)
  • "Trombone Skyze" – Holy Wow (Original Song)
  • "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" – Norworth & Von Tilzer
  • "The Old Gray Mare" – Thomas F. McNulty
  • "Trombone Fuerte" – Holy Wow (Original Song)
  • "Warm-Up"
  • "William Tell Overture" – Gioachino Rossini

In the future the game developer Holy WOW plans to add more songs. I mean really, can we PLEASE get All Star by Smsah Mouth in here?

While no console versions of the game is available yet, the developers say they are currently looking into releasing it on consoles. It just feels so good playing it on PC though as moving the mouse slider up and down makes me feel like I am playing a real Trombone.

Trombone Champ is a nice surprise of 2022. The simplicity and basicness of this game is really surprisingly fun and silly. It reminds me of the good ol' days of Wii Music.

I look forward to what more has to offer for Trombone Champ. It's available on PC now via Steam. I also look forward to annoying my neighbours with this game.

If you liked this game, be sure to also check out the Original Soundtrack on Bandcamp, and even follow the Devs on Twitter for future updates. Toot!
