Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack! (Steam)

Ah, Serious Sam. It's not just a great series because it has my name in it. It's a high-impact, adrenaline filled, adventure packed, (mostly) first person shooter series that's incredibly fun to play... Well, minus Serious Sam 2. That sequel can go F##k itself.

With a fun and popular series like this, spin-offs were bound to happen and this series has quite a few. Ranging from rogue likes to side-scrollers, this series isn't afraid to try out new things. This game is one of them. Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack is a runner game where you get to play as the iconic head-less bomb-for-hands Kamikazes. His goal is to chase down, catch, and blow-up Sam.

It's a simple game. All you do is run, kick things, jump, and yell out AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Levels are quite short, however there are bonus missions that help make the journey more interesting. Examples of these bonus missions include: Kicking bombs a certain amount of times, kicking toads a certain amount of times, kicking down certain amount of cactuses. Yeah, you get the picture. A lot of kicking things. Be careful not to hold down the attack button for too long, you'll blow-up prematurely and you'll have to re-do the level all over.

It's a very repetitive game and the charm of it all wears off after about ten stages. There's not much variety in the stages either. You only have a desert and a forest and that's it. You can customize your Kamikaze with different heads. The controls aren't bad. Everything is smooth and responsive. Music sounds fine, it's just a track from the main series of Serious Sam games. The repetition will get on your nerves though.

Thankfully, this one is an easy game to get all of the achievements in. You'll need to kick a certain amount of each enemies. You'll get those from just progressing through the game itself. On the way you'll earn achievements for beating certain amounts of levels. Although, you'll be aiming for the big one, beat the game itself. Next you'll have to beat a stage with one of the selectable heads that you can give to your Kamikaze.

This last achievement sounds a lot harder than it is. You'll need to be airborne for twenty seconds. How do you do this seemingly impossible task? Jump in the air, hit the charge button, then hit the jump button again after that to perform an air jump. Keep on doing this and you'll be able to complete the whole game without touching the ground. I recommend doing this after getting all of the kicking achievements. That way you can just cheese the rest of the game. Just make sure to drop down when Sam is below you so you can finish the level.

Overall, it's a very average runner game that gets boring really quick. But if you're a serious Serious Sam fan then nothing will stop you from playing this. Casual fans have plenty of other and better runner titles that are worth their time. For achievement hunters, this is just another quick game for you to 100%.

Paw Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay (Xbox One)

Now here's a game that you can get your kids to do for you. In Paw Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay (one hell of a title) you'll play as the Paw Patrol gang who are out to recover a crashed meteorite. They recover it on the first level and this incredible space rock gives the crew fantastic super-powers. Powers such as super-speed, being able to make tornados, being able to create giant tools, you know, textbook stuff. It's a shame that the Fantastic Four had to go to space to gain their powers.

This is a fairly standard 3D platformer about getting to the end of the level. Although, you will get to control two Paw Patrol members per stage. Reason why you get to control two members is because that there are some obstacles that can only be conquered by certain members. From needing to smash rocks, putting out fires, climbing cliffs, etc. A lot of these obstacles can just be done by hitting a single button, however there are some super special obstacles that will turn into a mini-game where you'll need to do special commands.

Some levels will have segments that include two more Paw Patrol members, giving them an extra task to help your main members to get deeper into the level.  Other than that, there's nothing much to do other than collecting all of the shields and puppy treats. There are a lot of puppy treats on each stage, with most stages having hundreds of them. HUNDREDS OF THEM!

Playing the main stages will not be enough to obtain everything though. There are mini-games that will be unlocked as you progress through the game. Again, pretty simple stuff. These special mini games will have you doing stuff such as jumping over a skipping rope, plowing snow over an icy highway, obstacle courses, and swimming under the sea. There's even a cruddy Dance Dance Revolution knock-off level.

I really couldn't find anything terrible about the gameplay itself. Controls are tight and responsive. Level design is basic, but enjoyable. Soundtrack takes me back to my Ska Rock phase. Only real complaint that I have is that the lack of challenge makes this game a little boring. There's no need to worry about losing lives.

Getting all of the achievements in this game is very simple. Beat all of the levels and mini-games, collect all of the treats, and collect all of the shields. You'll have no need to worry about beating the levels and mini-games, no special advice needed here. Collecting most of the treats is also not a problem, but there will be a moment or two during the auto-running segments and mini-games where you'll miss some treats. Just do a second run of those specific levels or mini-game for if you've missed any treats.  They are easier to get on the second try. You won't need to re-collect all of the treats that you have collected before.

For collecting all of the shields, the main levels will have findable ones. You'll know that you're close when you see/hear your shield detector go off. The mini-games have shields too, but to obtain those you'll just need to beat the mini-games themselves. That's it. You only need to one-hundred percent this game in order to get all of the achievements. You can do it during one sitting as well. It only takes about three hours in total to do.

While this is far from being Spyro the Dragon or Crash Bandicoot, it's also not the worst game that you'll ever play. It's worth one playthrough for the grown-ups and multiple for the kids. You also won't need to fork out that much money either. This baby is on Game Pass.

10 Seconds to Win! (Steam)

If you like that tough, lovable game called Super Meat Boy. You know, the ultra hard platformer that puts your speed, platforming skills, and patience in the ultimate test of platformary Godhood. If you love that game, but suck at it (like most people), you'll find 10 Seconds to Win to be a satisfying alternative.

In this game you'll play as some guy who has ten seconds to beat obstacle filled stages. Nothing much to worry about, only buzz-saws, spikes, and pits. The exit is in a form of a big gold trophy. Nothing much to this game other than that. It's a very simple game.

The character doesn't do much either. He just runs, jumps, wall-jumps, and dashes. While not much, it's more than enough. Controls are tight and responsive, so you won't need to worry much about the game trying to cheat you. However, yes, the game is badly programed in some spots that involve buzz-saws. The buzz-saws are programed to go in a certain pattern, but sometimes that may break and they'll go in a pattern that they aren't supposed to go in. Thankfully, that's not much of a problem as they can still be avoided with ease.

Now with a game all about going fast and not dying, you'd expect there to be some difficult achievements about being ultra fast and ultra deathless. Nah. You don't get anything of the sort here. All you need to do to get all of the achievements is to simply beat the game. Yup. Just beat the game. You won't need much platforming skill to do this either. It's a lot easier than it sounds and anybody can beat this.

Overall, this game is not that bad, but far from being great. It's certainly the Diet Coke of the Super Meat Boy-likes, but it's worth a playthrough. Heck, it's also a really damn cheap game too. Your time and wallet aren't missing out much of anything with this. Good one to play during the lunchbreak.

BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! (Google Play)

Well, what do you know? We've finally got a piece for the Android fans. Didn't expect to see this one before the tenth issue. Now we'll have to find a GOG game for this series and we'll have the Supreme Six of achievement systems done. (Xbox, PlayStation, Google, Good Old Games, Steam, and Retro Achievements). Now we've got to wait for Epic to have a system to make us Achieveotakus very happy.

One part rhythm game, one part visual novel, one part gatcha, and all kawaii! This is BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! I know, the title sounds a little pornish to us dirty white boys. However, it's a pretty cute and innocent game about a bunch of all-female rock bands that just want to be friends and make music.

Full of charming characters and a big setlist made up of cover tunes and original tracks. The visual novels parts are short and have full voice acting. However, the voice acting requires some extra downloads. There's a lot of them too, all from different perspectives. Each band will have their stories, and there are a few main storylines split into seasons.

When you're not reading the game you'll be in the cute, but basic overworld. Here you can visit locations, talk to all of the characters, and unlock stuff such as instruments, songs, and upgrades. All of these will use an in-game currency that you can earn or use real money. Good news! You will not have to spend a single real life cent to fully enjoy this game.

The rhythm game mode is pretty cool. Gameplay style is similar to that of Guitar Hero or Rock Band where notes will come flying at you. Just hit the notes right as they reach the little circles at the bottom of the screen. Trying to get the best scores and ranks is stupid in this game. You won't get the best score and ranks based on skill alone. Nope! You'll need to upgrade your band, so they can make your notes worth more.

There's so much to do in this game, so that must mean that this has a huge and vast achievement set. Well, no. The achievement set is quite small, dull, and disappointing. All you need to do to master this set is to get your account to level thirty. You'll unlock achievements for levelling up to other ranks, but level thirty is the highest that the achievements go to. Reaching that level is the endgame task for this game.

The best way to earn the experience points to level up is to go to the main overworld and visit every area to see if there are any characters to talk to. Once you've talked to every character that's available once each, read (or skip through) one of the visual novel segments or play a song to reset the overworld and talk to the girls again.  Now, the experience points are only gained if the characters have something new to say. You'll be able to tell when you have a new conversation when you see a big icon that says "new" on it.

Other things to look out for when grinding for experience is for events. Sometimes you can gain a whole load of experience points from an event. Getting all of the achievements will vary in time. It could take you a month or it could take you a couple of days. It doesn't matter, this is not a hard game to complete the achievement set whatsoever. You can play this one at your own pace.

Overall, this isn't a bad little mobile game. It's worth checking out for the story and gameplay alone. Although, I recommend playing this one on a huge tablet rather than a phone. You'll be able to hit the motes a lot better that way.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Burning Earth (Xbox 360)

All the way back in issue one, I said that I had never played this. Seven issues later and I can now say that I've played the most famous, infamous, and memed achievement set in video game history.

I don't care as to what the story is about. Didn't care to listen to the soundtrack. Hell, didn't care to play this game for more than two minutes. I didn't have to either because all the achievements can be unlocked during the tutorial stage. All you need to do is get a combo of fifty hits. Normally this would be tough, but not in this case. Once you reach the second wave of baddies AKA after General Fong gives a speech, spam your air throw with the B button. Keep hurling that air at the baddies until you have reached a combo of fifty.

You will not get punished for missing any baddie, but your combo will break if they happen to hit you. Keep your distance at all times. It really is that simple. You can unlock some of the combo cheevos during the first wave of baddies, but not all. You'll be able to get a combo of about 20, but a cut-scene will play and break the streak.

Overall, it's not fair of me to say if you should play this game or not based on the game itself. I got everything that I needed to know for this article just from those first two minutes of the game alone. I can say that the graphics have not aged very well at all.

Q&A

Johnny Fly asks: Can you stop talking down to your audience! You come off as a bit of an a**hole! I already don't like how there's already one here. So do us a favor and DON'T BECOME THE SECOND ONE!

I respond: I agree with you. I'll do my best, but I can't promise that I'll 100% be a**hole free.

Maximus Harrylicious asks: What was the first game that you got all of the achievements on?

I respond: That's a great question. It was all the way back in 2007. I was 17 and had just gotten my first Xbox 360 with my hard earned money. The system came with a bonus game, that game being TMNT. The game based on the CG Ninja Turtles movie that came out during that same year. It still feels like yesterday seeing the game and the HD-DVD release of the movie in stores.

Anyway, long story short. It was that very game. I may have to replay that game as well. I remember it being a very easy game to get all of the achievements on as well. Although, I remember the gameplay being quite average.

Franky "Juice Juice" Frank squeezes in a question: Did you see Will Smith slapping the Sh*t out of Chris Rock? Is there anyone out there that you want to do the Will Smith too?

I slap back: No comment. Although, Youtube's algorithm deserves a good pimp slap.
