Fenris Talks About : Five Games I Still Go Back to in 2019 (In No Particular Order)

What games do you keep going back to? Here's my five that I can't put down, no matter how hard I try (In no particular order).

5° The Wolf Among Us

I loved this game when it came out and still love it now. I rate it rather high on the list of the best Telltale (rest in peace, sweet prince) games to ever come out of the studio, right up there with Tales from the Borderlands and The Walking Dead series due to its interesting side characters, 80s detective noir aesthetic, and main character. Sorry Batman and Jesse from Minecraft: Story Mode... You ain't got shit on Bigby Wolf. If you're looking to play TWAU, I'd highly recommend picking them up now wherever your game store of choice may be. Because of Telltale's closure, the games are disappearing off digital store fronts very slowly.

Game Description: A gritty, violent, and hard-boiled thriller where the characters and creatures of myth, lore and legend are real and exist in our world. Based on the award-winning Fables comic books (DC Comics/Vertigo). As Bigby Wolf - THE big bad wolf - you will discover that a brutal, bloody murder is just a taste of things to come in a game series where your every decision can have enormous consequences.

4° Fable/Fable: The Lost Chapters/Fable Anniversary

The game of my childhood. Throwing my rather huge nostalgia goggles aside for a moment, this game had the potential to be something absolutely extraordinary but due to the overzealousness of Peter Molyneux and the false promises he made about development, we got the original Fable in a rather messy state. Good thing the TLC version came along and at the very least fixed some of the gripes players had at the end of the original version of Fable. Anniversary is a good building upon the foundation that is TLC, but the remaster still has some charm lacking from the original due to the updated engine making characters look... Rather fugly, if you ask me.

Game Description (Anniversary): FOR EVERY CHOICE, A CONSEQUENCE. Fully re-mastered with HD visuals and audio, Fable Anniversary is a stunning rendition of the original game that will delight faithful fans and new players alike!

3° Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

If you haven't played it, please for the love of God pick this up during a sale on Steam and use the TSLRCM (The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod) on it as it readded cut-content to the game. This game has some of the best writing and characters out of the two games. (sorry KotOR, I love you, but my heart bleeds KotOR II).

Game Description: 5 years after the events of the award winning original, the Sith are on the verge of crushing the Old Republic. As a lone Jedi, will you follow the light side or succumb to the dark?

2° Borderlands 2

This was my major go to in high school and comin' back to it on the heels of the future release of Borderlands 3 really brings home on how this formula of "shoot big thing to get big better thing" can never go wrong in my book.

Game Description: A new era of shoot and loot is about to begin. Play as one of four new vault hunters facing off against a massive new world of creatures, psychos and the evil mastermind, Handsome Jack. Make new friends, arm them with a bazillion weapons and fight alongside them in 4 player co-op on a relentless quest for revenge and redemption across the undiscovered and unpredictable living planet.

1° Jade Empire

Even though the game has pretty much died in the eyes of Bioware, I will always have a place in my heart for JE. I view this game as wasted potential, a lot of stories could have been told in its interesting world but alas, that's not in the cards. Wouldn't recommend picking up the PC version though unless you genuinely wanna go through hoops to get it to run properly... Just nab the mobile or Xbox version instead.

Game Description: Step into the role of an aspiring martial-arts master and follow the path of the open palm or the closed fist. In this multi-award-winning action-RPG, your choices and actions will determine the fate of the entire Jade Empire. Will you prevent the destruction of this beautiful land, or will you crush it beneath your heel?
